What "long and empty hours", LH?
With all those so-far unread books, unheard pieces of music, unseen films, works of visual art, unmet people, unwritten great canadian/American/world novels, unseen plays, unlearnt (i.e. not-yet-learnt0 languages? And that's without any sciences, unvisited restaurants, unwritten letters/emails, unkissed whoevers.
you might at least fill 'empty hours' with meditation,
