I would be haunting the humane society shelters. If I were looking for a particular breed or mix I'd probably go for a border collie type. They are brainy, think for themselves, figure out very quickly what it is you want from them.

pdq, I disagree strongly with your depiction of the standard poodle or the airedale, for that matter. In my experience of poodles, they are bright, strong and indefatigible.

I've never had an airedale but my brother has had two of them, both of them more aloof than the poodle but alert and willing. I have never known either of those standards to bite. My miniature poodle, however, attacked the boot of a friend of my sister's when he pretended to step on my sister's foot.
