For pure tearjerking, and retelling of the wronged hound story (man comes home, missing baby, blood on hound's muzzle, kills dog, finds baby safe near dead wolf, general rending of clothes, tearing of hair ensues), there's Echo Mountain. I've only heard Bluegrasser James King sing it, and he may have written it, but the basic story is very old.
