Subject: BS: Pubs closing - landlord's fault?
One of the threads here is about pubs closing. Now it is my belief that there are plenty of stories about landlords turning trade down.

Let me give an example.

I rang a pub to warn them in advance that two morris teams would like to turn up on a Monday in a week or so's time - and if it was OK, then they might like to make sure they could cope with an extra 40 or so customers. "Oh I don't know, says the landlady, you will want drinks and things (!!) and there will be all those extra glasses to wash and I might have to order extra beer................and on and on she went as I quietly put the telephone down.

Here is another.

Every two years we have a carol festival in Grenoside and on the Friday night beforehand we congregate in a pub there, Each year the landlord is warned to get plenty of extra real ale in and each year he/she promises this is done. And each year - they run out at least an hour and a half before closing time. And each year he has a pub full of people hardly drinking because all he has is smooth and lager.
