Thread Name: Lyr Req: Alnwick and Tyne (Blyth Power)
Subject: Ainwick & Tyne
Hi, I have this on a tape made for me by a friend, so no artist or album; I have a lot of the words to a lot of the songs, and was wondering if anyone knew the rest. I's like to be able to sing all the songs on this album all the way through. They may not qualify as either "blues" or "folk" but as usual, I just figure someone will know...

Part of the title song goes:

And I have four-and-twenty tailors now and they work the whole day through
To make me a cloak of rebel yellow, make me a coat of royal blue
(then I'm missing some)
Make me a coat for every weather and I'll change it every day
Well, the years roll by and another voice is heard (Mark my silence, mark my words)
(then I'm missing some more)
And she said that she'd come up and see to me sometime
Rearranging all across the border (??)boundaries scatter and divide
And on my picture left in Scotland swore me sanctuary, denied
To hunt me all across the border and from Ainwick to the Tyne, Ainwick to the Tyne...

Other songs on the same album include Shift (but Shift's gone off to the war to play his valor in the fields / he's left his dogs behind him, all his men to pay the bills / and all the ladies at the window with their robes in disarray / are crying to the heavens Our lord has gone away! / And though all the mincing gallants did their best to play the part / there were none so brave of bearing there, there were none so stout of heart / who would stoop to soil their fingers and to labor all their days / when the fruits are dried and withered...), Under the Standing Stone (St. Augustin came to Kent, he spread the plague where'r he went - he said confession, he said Repent! Let the good lord take you by the hand - One in the eye for the Lord, one hand one sword one running sore, under the seawind came Augustin, join hands, make war!), something about someone trying to borrow money from his family that goes "Jack was nimble, Jack was broke and now he's gone to seed / He's sold his soul for a tarnished shilling and the same thing happened to me (could happen to you) / It's a long hard summer I'm working through...", something about a courtroom (Dust on the benches, and velvet, and varnish, and church bells ringing the hour ... And now the court will rise...

Anyway, that ought to be enough for someone to recognize, so I'll stop here.
