I've never heard the song itself, but the title comes up in an old song introduction by singer-songwriter Bill Staines, who posits the existence of country-and-western hits, one with the above title, and also "I Tried to Write a Drinking Song, But I Couldn't Past the First Three Bars."The idea that someone has recorded such a tune seems like coming across a book by Kilgore Trout, a writer's name invented in the imagination of Kurt Vonnegut and later adopted as a nom de plume by someone else.
But this sort of recycling is what traditional arts are all about, isn't it?
