Once we took our rowboat on a creek in Suwannee River State Park. (The river itself looked too big and powerful.) For a long time we followed a beaver downstream. It seemed to have no idea we were there, then suddenly it cottoned to us and disappeared.

Later we encountered another visitor and told him about it. He said, "What's a beaver?"
