What strategies are helpful in countering the effects of a US/global economic collapse?

Should one take steps to avoid any possible run on the banks?


Areas of interest:
Energy needs like heating and fuel.
Food
Labor pools/friends&family.
Paper money vs. metals
transportation


I'm not suggesting that 7 million forclosures alone will spark an "armageddon in the market or that Chinese selling off US Treeasury notes after the Olympics will cause a global depression. I only want to pose a cautious "what if" question and choose a scenario for the best success in the eventuality that the wealthy (beyond belief) will not cover their losses and choose ro rather let it trickle down.

Afterall many of you have been 100% correct in predicting the outcome of the failed policies that have come home to roost.
