The best book on the subject of surviving is The Y2K Survival Guide. Obviously meant for the 'Millenium Crisis,' but it's packed with information and strategies.

Only problem I saw with the book was in the writer's mention of matches. Keeping lots of matches on hand. I bought a hundred Bic lighters on eBay. Be able to light a fire the rest of my life now, if I don't take up smoking.
