The political stability and the generally secure environment is the envy of most of the world. If you did something about gun control - you could improve international perception of that even further. A lot of European pensioners would consider retiring there with their pensions earned in colder climes - if you got that right.

Spain has an entire industry built on that - I'm sure most people would prefer to retire to somewhere the language was English.
