(From Richmond Folk Music, Maryrrf) Hello fellow folkies of Richmond! Have you missed your 'folk music fix"? We at Richmond Folk Music hope you've had a wonderful summer, and we've been busy lining up a great 2007 - 2008 season of concerts.
It's not often that we're blown away by a demo, but when we heard Chance and Susette's demo CD, made on their front porch, we just had to book them for the first concert of the season! They obviously enjoy making music, and it made us enjoy listening. They combine an easy, laid back style of singing with expert guitar, banjo and autoharp accompaniment. They draw their repertoire from the very, very early days of country music, at a time when country music really was the music of the people. Performers like the Carter Family, the Delmore Brothers, Uncle Dave Macon, Jimmie Rodgers, and other stars of the early Grand Old Opry were still very close to their mountain roots - unlike country music of today that sounds more like generic pop. And don't forget, radio was live, and radio comedy thrived. Chance and Susette have honed some comic dialogues reminiscent of The Honeymooners, George Burns and Gracie.....back when humor didn't depend on shock value but on wit and timing.
Vist Chance and Susette's website at www.theshivershow.com to learn more about them and listen to sound samples.
And speaking of websites, Richmond Folk Music has a new revised website! Check it out at www.richmondfolkmusic.org. You may be directed to a "transition" page while we're in the process of transferring domain names, but just click to go to the new site. There you can see our season lineup, get more info on our upcoming concert, and purchase tickets securely on-line. We'll be adding more features to the website, so stay tuned!
Concerts held at Congregation Or Ami, 9400 W. Huguenot Rd., Richmond , VA. Tickets $10.00 in advance (purchase securely at www.richmondfolkmusic.org) or $12.00 at the door. Doors open at 7:15, concert starts at 8:00. Light refreshments (coffee, tea and cookies) will be available. For more information call Richmond Folk Music at 804-647-7856.
