I mean, him being a Canadian, while Mister Clemens was one of those Yankee galoots. And similarly, him being modest and known to the few, while Mister Clemens had gone around exciting the admiration of so many, in the crudest Yankee fashion. And him being a sorta hand-to-mouth day-trader of used objects, and Mister Clemens spurning such robust labour and making and losing several fortunes by the craft of his mind and pen, and all.
