I run at 5Kbs per less, both at home and here at a friends place - makes Linux updates a bit painful...


Can't advise about your local providers, but Broadband here is still not really 'affordable'.

The best quick advice is to use an image edit prog to chop down the filesizes of those pics... unless you want to paste up billboard size photos in high res...

Some 'sattellite connections' used to still use a dialup to SEND info, so unless you have an 'uplink' you can't send stuff to the sattellite - their advantage was a high DOWNLOAD speed - from the eye in the sky...   

So I don't know how much extra speed access you would get in trying to SEND large emails.
