The thread about Mrs. O'Leary's cow reminded me of a mishearing - Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers have a song about Baltimore burning, in which the chorus ran Far, far, are heard the cries... which years later was explained to me that the chorus really is Fire! Fire! (his SAYS far, but it's SPELLED f-i-r-e).
