Likely the size of the nose and the depth of the eyesockets have something to do with it. My nose is - um... robust (yeah, that's the word) and my eyes are somewhat deepset, so yes, I can see my nose if I make myself aware of it. It's not a direction one often looks unless a bee is sitting on it or summat.
