I recently bought a mandolin and can play much quicker on it than I can on an acoustic guitar. Tuning and spacing (ie proximity of notes without stretching) seem to lend themselves to speed.

The electric guitars in the house are easier to play fast than the acoustics.

I'm not sure where my bass sits in all this - I can play reasonably quickly on it but feel it is inherently slower.
