Canadians regard Grey Owl as an effective early spokesman for nature and the defense of wildlife, not for the Indian, who is able to speak for himself. The rapid inroads into our boreal forest make his example and message more important now than when he was active in the Canadian Parks system- the first naturalist hired by them in 1931, a post he held until his untimely death in 1938.
May the ghosts of Rawhide and Jelly Roll gnaw on his detractors!
