Is speed really desirable?
It depends. De gustibus and all that.
For my part I find, say, Mark Knopfler's expressive but not blazing fast guitar arias much more interesting listening than Eddie van Halen's mindless velocity worship.
Maybe some will accuse me of sour grapes 'cuz I can't play so fast, but I do believe there's something in it.
