I agree with Bryn Pugh except that in one respect I go a little further. I think there is no question that an application for Probate (or letters of administration if no will) in wanted needs to start with Probate in England (recognised in Scotland and Northern Ireland since the 30s) - Administration of Estates Act - since it appears that the property was in England, and if there are intellectual property rights like copyright or performers' rights in issue those subsist and devolve according to the laws of each respective jurisdiction. Usually intellectual property rights are forgotten about in many wills so unless there is a gift of residue there may well be a partial intestacy anyway.
