Like all of the above I too found the story of Grey Owl fascinating. A friend of mine, Geoff Hutchinson, wrote a condensed book about Archibald's life which is where I got the inspiration to write the song. As part of Geoff's research he actually went to Canada to 'follow in some of Grey Owl's footsteps'.
Since then I have been given a couple of Grey Owl's books and one of them is actually signed by the man himself!
I was also given a copy of the DVD mentioned above with Pierce Brosnan. (Too good looking in my opinion to play a man living from the land...)
