Subject: RE: BS: Really bad junk food
The restaurant critic on a local NYC TV station did Fair Food once. He tried the cotton candy, greasy funnel cakes, and a bunch of other stuff but could not bring hinself to even taste a corn dog. They gross me out too.

I think most of the food is fried because it is the simplest way to do it at a fair. At the San Gennaro Festival in lower Manhattan, drums of boiling fat line the streets and in them calzones are fried. Normally a calzone is baked but where and how do you set up a temporary oven?

Ron,
I can't let your statement "Having a beer does not make a person an alcoholic.   Having a serving of fried dough or greasy food will not someone into an overweight slob."

Overweight does not equate to sloppy. I carry quite a few extra pounds. I also wear clean clothes which match and/or coordinate. I have my hair cut and colored on a regular schedule. I shower daily, use deodorant, manicure my nails, pedicure my feet. I am overweight but not a slob.
And if I could figure out a way to lose the weight AND KEEP IT OFF I would. Diet and exercise? If it were that simple we would all be thin. There are a few other elements which feed (no pun intended) into it. And interestingly enough, food is low on the list.
I can name at least ten Mudcatters who like me have managed to lose 50+ pounds only to gain it back plus five more. It is a constant battle between what we want to do and what nature and nurture have programmed us to do.
