I begged off doing a yard sale with a friend of mine this year, whether at her house or mine. Last 2 times I've done it, I ended up spending the better part of 3 days and netting less than $40 per day, not counting the bigger ticket items like guitars.   I can do almost that well by just donating the small stuff to charity and taking the tax deduction and using CraigsList for the higher-value items. Yard sales are not the best ways to get a good price on something like a guitar or stereo stuff or computer or any but the cheapest jewelry.
