Kat -- thank you. The Art Garden, being a "literary magazube for the stage," is an evening made up of poems, essays and stories all read aloud to an audience. So when I write for that venue, I always keep that oral quality in mind. But as this story was to be centered on dancing, I decided that it should be written in verse; it's actually in iambic pentameter, mostly, but I got rid of the line breaks to keep myself from reciting it in too sing-songy a voice.

This is the first time I tried this approach and I discovered that it was also easier to compose and to memorize than the "ordinary" stories I've written. Even four years later, I can almost recite it word-for-word from beginning to end...
