A question (Azizi, are you listening?)

Back in the 1940's, there was a kid's game which went (all kids in a circle were numbered, and one started out:)

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Number two (chosen randomly) stole the cookie from the cookie jar
(#2 responds)) Not I stole the cookie from the cookie jar
(first kid again) Then who stole the cookie from the cookie jar
(#2 responds) NUmber seven (also chosen randomly) stole the cookie from the cookie jar...

and so on. Anyone breaking the rhythm when his or her turn came was out of the game.
