I'd have to flip a coin to choose, so I'm saying both: earthworms and crows (the crow family includes ravens). For without the soil-making work of worms, I shudder to think where we and our loved ones would be. Similarly for the carrion cleanup by crows. And, for reasons unknown to me, the sounds of these magical black birds build within me a feeling of safety, strength and community.
