Thread Name: Lyr Req: My Family Owns This Town (David Olney)
Subject: Lyr Req: Mansion on the Hill (?)
Once again I turn to my mudcat mavens to help me flesh out the snatch of a song that has been running through my head lately. I know there's a song called Mansion on the Hill by Neil Young but this isn't it.

The words I remember are:

My daddy built this town
he built this mill
We live up on the mansion
on the hill
We had slaves before the war
We don't need them any more
Money talks, money always will
My daddy built this town, he built this mill.

I would like the name of the song and artist and writer, and the rest of words if possible. The song tells a (harrowing )story and the narrative almost reads like a mystery that is revealed in the last verse. Heard it on FUV a couple of years ago but can't find it now.

Thanks in advance mudcats...you haven't let me down so far.
