I had a friend once who lost four sons in one day when three of them jumped in, in succession, to save the first from the Colorado River. Pre-cell phone days, no one else about but other young people, the river swift and strong, no ropes etc. available. It was a horrible tragedy, but they didn't hesitate, not once, about going in after their brother.
