I was at a festival in Slovakia a couple of weeks ago where a band was playing something like Slovakia's answer to Playford, in period costume using mostly-period instruments (violin, double bass, drum and cittern-pandore-thingummy doing a rhythm-guitar-like part); their arrangements were rather like the Broadside Band's but the melodies were Eastern European. For some numbers, the c-p-t player played what looked to be a subcontrabass kazoo at the same time - it was about two feet long, made of wood with the bark still on, and he sang a tenor line through it.
