I have sen similar machines here in Australia (imported) - most of the 3 speed ones I have seen do NOT have a changeable needle - they only have the microgroove one, and not the wider one needed for 78 rpm playback.

You will get a sound, but the needle is riding on the base of the groove, not on the sides, so you will lose most of the correct sound.
