re: the Bob's. They were a San Francisco regional group originally with 3 men and 1 woman. B-o-b stood for "best of breed" as in dog show terminology. They were as you said, inventive and amazingly skilled musicians. They went on to do combined shows with a modern dance troupe and eventually split up.

I heard them in concert several times and their zanyness and superb musicianship always got standing, screaming ovations.
