Thread Name: The Singing River - Author?
Subject: The Singing River - Author?
I have the lyrics for this song although I don't know them 'by heart', I could look them up.

The song begins something like:

There's a story about Winona (not THAT Winona, Little Hawk)

The refrain is

The singing river, oooooo (lol)
With its lonesome sound
People come to listen for miles around
Some are unbelievers but not for very long
When the river starts to sing its song...

A wildly talented friend of mine used to sing this song and I have recorded it by him several times. Don Drew was a tremendous talent- but he died in his sleep just about a year ago so I can't ask him.

Tonight at Gold Street Music, a fan of Don's came up to me and said she couldn't find any information about the song and asked whether it could have been by Slim Whitman.

Now, it could be Slim Whitman but in the back of my mind there is a niggling feeling that it is by someone else. Like the fan, I googled and found nothing.

Any information? I have the fan's phone number and I need something to tell her.
