The Terran, weary with endless paranoia and secret messages, joins the lovely Kelida in the ship's saloon and sings:

... a song he has not heard since his childhood on the wide banks of Tern's upper Slumber River Valley. He grows maudlin remembering the apple blossoms and a home-made ukelele he crafted from a hardwood jangar box, on which he first learned to strum the ancient Terran song "Beautiful, Beautiful Blue Eyes", which he proceeds to sing with deep feeling to his bawdy drinking companion.
