Office 2000 is quite good enough for me, if it's all the same to you. You can still use a formula like:
=SUMPRODUCT(--($F$877:INDEX(F:F,ROW()-1)="Period Variance"),(G877:INDEX(G:G,ROW()-1)))

....which is quite flash is it not!
