Thread Name: Lyr Req: Friend for Life (Bryan Bowers)
Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: FRIEND FOR LIFE (Bryan Bowers)
Great song! Truly true for us folk music pholks.
Here it is. We printed in our newsletter, with Brian Bower's permission, and sang it at our club's 15th anniversary meeting in April '99. Some of the chord indicators have been shifted with transposition from my received email.
Friend For Life
by Bryan Bowers and Bob Danoffas learned from Delmar Pound
with several slight word changes by Holly Van Auken
Capo 2
  Chorus:
G C
When you learn a song, you've got a friend for life,
D C D G
That you can call on in the still of the night.
C
When you're down and out, on a two-lane road,
G D Em
Your friend the song will be there to ease your load,
C G D G
Will be there to ease your load.
D D7 G
When your Mom and Dad cross your mind,
D D7 G
Thinking back to the ties that bind.
G7 C
Won't fill your heart like singing some old song,
G D7 G
They used to sing back when you were young. (Chorus)

When time hangs heavy on your hands,
That novel that you burn your eyes out on,
Won't fill your heart like learning some old song,
That will be there to help you later on. (Chorus)

When the night is young but you're feeling old,
TV's empty hours won't fill your soul,
Like singing some old song that was your friend,
When you were young, and you are young again. (Chorus)
(Repeat first line of chorus to end it)
                                            G D G
When you learn a song, you've got a friend for life.

Phil- If we work on this a bit for March, we could put the words in the April newsletter and invite everyone to sing it with us for the 15th Anniversary meeting in April. I'm mailing you a tape the first of the week to share with Jim. -Holly
Line Breaks
and
preformat tags added, but I had a hard time figuring where what was supposed to go.
