As a young boy on a ranch in central California, I would listen to an old radio in the barn early in the mornings. The only station that came in clearly was a country station. I heard someone do this song many times; I cannot recall the singer. Some time later, probably around 1950 or '52 at Knott's Berry Farm, south of Los Angeles, I saw Tex Williams perform the piece on their outdoor "covered wagon" campfire stage. He also did Merle Travis' "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette." Thanks for the memories.
