Wanted: A compatible couple to live on Seguin Island, Maine for the summer of 2004 to caretake a majestic historic lighthouse and surrounding 64 acres of grounds, 2½ miles off shore from the mouth of the Kennebec River.

After ten weeks of reviewing 185 applications for the job as Lighthouse Caretakers for Wind Point Lighthouse, the Village Board hired two Lighthouse Lovers who met at a Lighthouse, were later married at a Lighthouse, and now a dream come true, they will live in a Lighthouse.

On 09/13/2007, the Wind Point Village Board appointed Michael and Susan Arts of Racine, Wisconsin as the new caretakers of the Wind Point Lighthouse. Both Lighthouse Lovers met at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in North Carolina and later exchanged wedding vows at Sullivan's Island Lighthouse in South Carolina.

The competition seems pretty fierce, and specific offers seem to come and go regularly. One would need to decide to try it and then search persistently for a workable opportunity.

There are also still a few old ICBM Missile Silos scattered around the country for those who just need a quiet place. The government sales have ended, I believe, but resales appear occasionally.
