I was in a supermarket at the very start of the summer holidays and there was child having a fullblown temper tantrum. His mother was shouting at him to be quiet and said in a very loud voice words to the effect of 'why do bloody teachers have to have such long holidays. It means I have to look after you!' To which I very quickly replied, 'We have long holidays because we are looking after your child all day and trying to educate him and if you didn't want to look after him you shouldn't have had him in the first place.' There was deathly hush all around me, including the little boy, and I thought I was about to be escorted from the supermarket but a voice said 'well said there' and I got a round of applause!
