Every day some poor bastard who interrupts the local hoodlums in the course of their nefarious activties ends up in a coma, or dead.

I speak from experience when I tell you the professionals are very very good, and they do not work from 'gut instict of what's right and wrong', but rather from the point of view of knowing what they can accomplish within the framework of the law.

Don't mix it with the assholes - they have chosen the field of battle, and thus you have conceded them an important advantage by tangling with them. No experienced general would concede that much.
