Subject: Review: New UK Folk Show on Local Radio
Sheffield Live, a community based FM station http://www.sheffieldlive.org/ began broadcasting on October 29th. Today from 10.00 am - 12 noon was its first folk show. It is intended this is will be a regular slot.

It is available on 93.2 FM; live on the World Wide Web and as a podcast so there is no excuse for not listening. It will concentrate on music from the British Isles with an occasional foray into Europe to mainly because I love spanish pipers.

Modesty would normally prevent me from mentioning the name of the presenter but I am desperate for a name for the programme. So please any ideas as to what the programme should be called will be gratefully received. Folk on Friday is fine and alliterative but the BBC used it. I don't mind avoiding the word folk (or even the word Friday).

If you want to know what how the various definitions of folk fit in to the show take a listen to the podcast.

It includes Last Night's Fun, Steeleye Span, Guichen Quartet, a long piece on the Watersons, Crucible, Glorystrokes, Hekety, Devil's Interval, Spiers and Boden, Jim Causely, Sharon Shannon etc etc. Kicks off with Brian Peters and ends with Bellowhead.

I am also desperate for news of artists, their tours and records of course, especially those that visit Sheffield. PM for an address to send them or take a look at http://www.collectorsfolk.co.uk/where my home address is under "contacts".

It'll take me a while to get up to speed but there will be interviews and news as well as records. I'll cover festival, folk clubs and sessions and any advice is welcome. It's a two hour show so there is plenty of time.

I didn't warn people in advance for two reasons. I wasn't sure I could do it - still not - but with a couple of minor errors it seemed to go well. I had a listener or two - thanks Chris and Christine whoever/wherever you are - and a posh media person in the building for the Documentary Film Festival wondered why the station was playing Gregorian chants. It was the Watersons with the Souling Song.

So there is still a job of education to be done.
