Thread Name: 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards
Subject: RE: 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards
Joseph, there's no need to shout, please. If indeed you mean Donal O'Shaughnessy, I believe he is not from Canada but rather south of the border, so would not qualify for the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

"The criteria for Eligibility:
Canadian artists who have released recordings between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007 are eligible to submit their work for the 2007 "Canadian Folk Music Awards. Artist eligibility criteria applies to all categories. Canadian artists, for the purposes of this competition, are defined as follows:

"1) A Canadian citizen or;

"2) A landed immigrant or;

"3) A person who has resided in Canada for two years (including the eligibility period).

"4) In the case of group submissions, at least 50% of group members must fulfill one of the above definitions of 'Canadian artist.'

"The judging process is similar to that of the two-stage elimination model used by the Junos via a randomly selected jury drawn from our community." CFMA.ca website.

The names on the nominations list are the result of a time-consuming pre-judging process which has narrowed sometimes 70 or so entries in a single category down to 5 finalists in a specific category.

I hope that helps to make things a bit clearer. If it feels necessary to list those who "should" be on the list and aren't, perhaps someone would like to begin another thread for that purpose.
