There was a famous Dutch woman athlete (sprinter) named Fanny Blankers-Koen, and an American comedienne, Fanny Brice.

I suspect that very few in Britain have been called that since John Cleland published "Fanny Hill - Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure" in 1748.
