Since guitar & mandolin strings, as well as tin whistle are all made of metal, it would seem right that the combination of the oxide from the metal, as well as sweat and grime that accidentally get on the face by inadverdant touching, can cause clogged pores, resulting in blackheads, rashes, acne, and general bad complexion. The cure? Was your hands! My classical guitar teacher told me that washing your hands before and after musical performance will not only be beneficial to the strings and finish of the instrument, but to your skin as well. But don't overdo it...too much water softens callouses on the fingers, resulting in a not-so-good sound when playing.--Mbo
