I can vouch for the sudden influx of creatures of the Family Spheniscidae. There seem to be several species represented, one at least has religious leanings as it is standing next to the VM in the Lourdes grotto replica (Dont ask!!!!)
Is this due to Climate change?
Is Maine suddenly colder?/due an extra hard winter?
or maybe there is a world shortage of Nuns?
or perhaps the "perpetrator" is short sighted and made a purchasing (or shop-lifting) error? (maybe you are a haven for stolen nuns!!!)
Maybe its the great Penguin expedition to determine if the world is round and you are harbouring the Penguin equivelent of Christoforo Columbus!!! or a penguin Marco Polo.
I offer the above as suggestions a hypothesis for possible explanations, based on Scientific examination of the current situation, the pooping penguin I know the origin of as I bought it at Hannafords the other day AFTER the first "new"penguin had appeared and It was presented in its box as supplied and I can get a note from my Mum to say so!
