The curse words in a culture indicate whatever people are most insecure about, to put it very succinctly.

"Tabernac", for instance is a curse word in Quebec, and it refers to the tabernacle, a religious term. That was a society where people were particularly insecure, I would assume, about doing something that offends the church! Just about ALL societies are really insecure about sex and about bodily wastes...hence the common swearwords based on those.

I'm not offended if some foolish person, for instance, calls me a "twat" or a "cunt" or a "cocksucker" though I imagine he expects I will be offended! (grin) It just strikes me as kind of funny, sort of ridiculous, because there is absolutely nothing offensive about those references, and they have no relevance to me.

Now if he were to call me a fool, a jerk, a dimwit, an idiot, a phony, a liar...that would maybe offend me. It has to do with something that actually matters, and it is a real criticism of my character rather than the other person merely expressing their own insecurities about sex in an unconscious way while trying to insult someone else.
