   I think the album, Gathering at the Earl of Old Town, came out in 1971 or 72, like you said. I remember getting a copy as soon as I could get to Discount Records in Chicago (I was in high school then) and played it to death. The midnight special had played songs from an advanced copy for several weeks beforehand. I still think the version of Eight Ball by Steve Goodman was better on "Gathering" than the more produced one that appeared on his first "proper" album.
