Faith has been the organizing principle for human society throughout most of human history. For this reason, you can say that EVERYTHING came out of religion - culturally speaking. Sure, there's a lot of baggage we'd be better off without, but twentieth-century attempts to organize societies around race or ideology haven't exactly been a picnic in the park, either.
