One cause of facial skin irritation few people think of is sitting in front of a CRT. They put an electric charge on your skin (particularly if it's dry) so it attracts dust (with whatever allergens may be in the dust, e.g. mites).

Do you have a fringe, and have you had your hair dyed recently? If so put those together.
