I sometimes wonder how I would react if my principles were put to the test. I think that we all think that we will be able to stand against the dark but, when faced with the possibility of torture and death I think that it would be very difficult to stand in disagreement.

From my own experience I know that I can take pleasure in the discomfort of someone who has caused trouble for me or mine and can get very catty with others at the expense of such a person. I don't think that it is a likeable trait but it is there and sometimes gets free range. How far that might go in circumstances like those that existed in Nazi Germany I've not really thought about too much - I might not like the answer.
