My 2 cents, the problems are not just from the drug demand in the US, they are also because of the corruption and bribery in the "legal system" in Mexico. If Mexico could provide well paying jobs for its workers, they would not risk their lives to come here. They would be happy to stay home and make a living wage. I have lived in Central America and traveled extensively in Mexico. Those who live there would tell you the same thing.
