Vassar Clements started out as a young member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys.He also played with Jim and Jesse and the Virginia Boys.

Though best known for his outstanding work with the fiddle, Vassar is also a master of the cello and the viola.

He is also known to have coined the phrase, "before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water... after enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.

Mr. Clements is also a fine vocalist.
